I have a JP Sauer 20ga side x side and am having issues with the firing pins sticking out in the fired position protruding into the primer. The pins do not seem to retract resulting in having to break the breach open pretty firmly over your knee. Any guess as to what might be causing this problem? Is this shotgun in need of internal cleaning and is this fairly easy to do or is the dissambly something only a competent gunsmith should attempt?

Thanks for any advice

Mike

Possibly a timing issue? Is the forend wood cracked or has it shrank? Is there wear on the forend iron at the frame interface? A good cleaing might be in order, but are the firing pins straight and are the hole symmetrical?

Kind Regards,

There are several possible causes of the problem, depending on he exact model of the gun (rebounding locks or not, firing pins part of hammers or a separate details, etc), previous repaires on the gun (I've seen a gun with a similar problem that resulted from someone's attempt to cure dry firing by streching out the firing pins), and even (not likely, but possible) wrong primers. The best advice at the moment is the standard "have the gun examined by a competent gunsmith"
