Raimey,
The "F" with the crown over it is in script, but it does not appear to be an intertwined "CF". It is located to the left of the load data on each barrel. There is a T near the SN on the underside of the bottom barrel, it is upside down relative to the SN & it's a little hard to see due to all the scratches there. I can also make out what appears to be "17/1" and next to that is what I think is a "16" inside a circle, both near the SN.

Below is a picture from inside the receiver showing the "U" w/ the crown over top and also another mark that I'm not sure how to describe, but it is also found under the barrels as least 2-3 times.

What are your thoughts?

I've seen other "Crown" over "F"s but to yet haven't found an answer for the "Crown" over a Fraktur or Gothic "F". It takes the position of a "Crown" over "N". Single T, I'll have to ponder. Is there a Greener safety on the right side? Very interesting scattergun.

Kind Regards,

Raimey

Was in the Holland and Holland factory several weeks ago, and handled a 3 barrel 20- bore side by side by side. Didn't feel or look too clumsy. Single trigger

That gun was mentioned when I took a recent gun fitting lesson at the H&H shooting ground and if memory serves is a special "one off" commission. I also had a chance to take a sneeky peek at an incredible double 4-bore which has also just been made for a private purchaser. Very impressive indeed.

I also saw the 4 bore. Altho I didn't handle it, it was described as having "over $100,000 worth of engraving". The rich are different than the rest of us.

Raimey,

Yes, it does have a Greener style saftey on the right side (there's a picture of it posted on page 2 of this).

Do you have any idea on the approx date it was made?

Thanks for all the info!

Austin

PS - For those of you interested, there's a picture on the back cover of Diggory Hadoke's new book "Vintage Guns for the Modern Shot" with him holding a 1883 4 barrel 20 bore Purdey in the Long Room at Purdey's.
