I miss Russ, the St. Louis "curmudgen". My "Elsie" had a broken bushing causing the firing pin to stick. When I called him about a replacement, he said they were each hand made at the bench and did not have standard threads. He suggested using Super Glue to hold it together and reinserting it. Has worked so far.

In "Plans & Specifications of the L.C. Smith Shotgun", (pages 87-88) the bushings had a thread of 5/16-32. There was someone that found some allen head cap screws in this size and had some made, but from the factory they were made from soft steel. On ebay a while back someone was selling them in pairs.

I have several bushings from an O Grade 12 mfg. about 1894- also an assortment of firing pins, even for hammer Smittys-I don't have the brass set screws, and the bushings are split, but the idea of Super-Glue is great, as once they are threaded into the mating firing pin channels, unless cross threaded, they should work. Lotsa hand work in those great pre-1913 "Sweet Elsies" RWTF

I had the same problem with an old Elsie....try Bill Schwarz of Ellijay, Ga. A true master gunsmith. He has created templates for a number of old parts. He can solve your problem. call him at 1-706-276-7668. As info, he does splendid work on rebluing, case colring and restoring damascus barresl. Good luck, Tom regel
