Hoping someone on this forum can provide some information on a shotgun my sixteen year old son was given by a grandparent.

The gun is a 12 gauge Charles Daly Superior II. It has 30" barrels and 3" chambers. The legend on the barrel states it was made in Italy and was imported by Outdoor Sports, Dayton Ohio. With the forend removed the top barrel is marked- CAM.76 18.4, followed by a single star. The bottom barrel is marked- KG1.480 18.4, followed by three stars. The gun is well built and the action is nicely engraved.

Now for the questions...Who made the gun and what is it choked?

Thanks in advance!

By the way, he was also given a Franchi auto loader. He is one lucky sixteen year old!

I'm not sure on the maker but most makers are in or near Bresica. 76mm(3"-approx.) is the depth of the chamber while the 18.4mm is the diatmeter of the tube just ahead of the chamber at a specificed distance from the standing breech. The single star notes the choke for Italian longarms and is full; not an exact number but a general designation. The KG 1.480 is the weight of the tubes in kilograms; while the 3 stars is modified. There should be a date code on the flats like XX or XXIV.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for the responses!

Some more clues...On the barrel flats is the following: The letters AH inside a box, Finto, +SGF+, 1252, PSF, and what appears to be four stars inside a circle. There are definitely three stars, but what I am assuming is a fourth, is a little faint.

Does this get us any closer to a maker?

Once again, thanks in advance.

AH would make it a 1981 gun.

Beretta did make a Daly "Empire" model sxs. I think all of them I've seen have had a vent rib and extractors. Look to be the same gun as the Beretta GR series.

OU's . . . I'm not sure Beretta ever made any OU's under the Daly name. I had a Daly sxs from Italy that was NOT an Empire Grade, looked totally different. Also from the 80's, if I recall correctly. Don't know who was making their guns at that point. That would have been after Miroku stopped making both OU's and sxs under the Daly name in Japan.
