Bought a 12ga Lightning with salt wood. Wondering if I should attempt repair. I would do the wood and have the metal done. Anyone done this? Advice appreciated.

If it's a salt wood gun, then i think you should should get after it. Just curious; is it a graded gun?

Assuming no damage has already occurred, does glassing the wood surfaces that touch metal solve the salt wood issue? TT

I bought 4 stocks blanks of very fancy American walnut. I have used three of them and two turned out to be salt cured. One of them was terrible and rather than ruin my 20 Fox i removed it and restocked the gun.I could not even remove the trigger guard tang screw, had to grind head off to remove guard. The other stock was a Fox i built for my son.It was not rusting as bad and i glass bedded the action and that helped. Them i put a coat of Rig on the tangs and action and that has seemed to correct it. Still loosen screws occasionally! Bobby

Glassing the wood surfaces does not help in the bad cases. There are slight and very bad salt wood.
