There is fabulous grouse hunting (to say nothing of fine woodcock hunting) in Maine. Google "Maine hunting camps" or Maine hunting guides"

This guy is a good Maine grouse/woodcock guide:

Bob Foshay
207-845-3162

He hunts in the central Maine area, on a lot of traditional coverts.

This place can hook you up with some guides:

I've never hunted with them, but I met one of his guides at a shoot a few weeks ago. The guy seemed to be very serious about bird hunting. The area he hunts is probably more big woods hunting - clearcuts, gravel pit, tote roads, etc.

If you're looking for a camp, I would recommend this place:

The owner is a great guy and it's a fun place - more like staying at a buddies place than staying at an actual camp. Libby's & Bradford are also up around there and they are good places to stay. That's all big woods hunting, though.

BTW: a lot of the guys who guide birds in Maine are deer or bear guides first. Birds are not their focus. IF you book a guide, be sure he is a bird hunter.

I would suggest Leen's lodge. Nice folks and nice dogs.
