And you don't put apostrophes in plurals, like bays, towns, years and coves. Those are common mistake's.

P.S. Why do we say I'm six foot, two inches tall but a room is 12 feet by 14 feet? Foot is singular, feet is plural, yes????

Appears Raimey reactivated this old sleeper to show the falling block which was "proved." So we all get to be correct about the terminology du jour AND grammatical usage. That's us: Going where no one has split infinitives before. Ain't life grand?

Hello Jaime,

I have always asked myself the same question, never thought of asking it here.
Will someone come up with an answer?

JC

Herr Rabbit is correct but I still hold with "proofed".

The imperial/U.S. adopted units, at least those associated with land, are the foot and acre, but will vary from state to state. If a dimension is greater that 1 foot, then the dimension is in feet. Any quantity greater than 1 acre is acres. So you have 1 foot, then 2 feet and likewise 1/4 acre and 4 acres. Tenths of a dimension are singular in nature. I think the use of foot for dimensions beyond 1 foot and also in square feet(foot) is due to the term footage. There's not a "feetage" term.

Kind Regards,

Raimey

I'm with "proof", with verifying guns are safe and with gin.
Raimey sure cleared up the foot/feet question!

Full fathom five thy father lies. . . ? Five foot two, eyes of blue. . .? Both the poetic and the vernacular are acceptable and doing a number on number confuses no one. When it comes to big chunks of verbal splooge, concision is desirable as are precision and clarity; if concision runs ahead the others will follow.

Support from South Audley St. for the geometer's distinction between a process (prove) and a successful result (proof)? Peter H. won't like hearing that.

Didn't that Purdey go to the Govt. facility for PROVING the barrels would have no dimensional changes following a PROOF load, and that fact having been PROVED (or having established PROOF thereof) they could be sold with the required PROVENANCE stamped on the flats?
