Miroku gun. 1977. Fixed chokes were converted to thin wall tubes. Nice job too. 30" bbls remain 30". .726 bores. Problem is, the chokes start around 4" from the muzzels and at the beginning of the tubes the bore is .708. Consequently I've got a mod/mod gun. I'd like to ream the bore to take that fixed coke out but I'm getting mixed information as to the bores. Some say chrome lined bores, some say only chrome lined chambers. Anyone know? And when I say 'I'm getting mixed information' I'm talking about the folks that are supposed to know. I've tried bluing the bores to see if it takes but its just too hard to see.

Is this a citori made by miroku or a miroku?
I am pretty positive that the miroku did not have chrome lined barrels. I'm not at home at present, but I have an article from shotgun sports that I collected a few years back where the writer went into detail about the miroku guns and I'm almost positive he said they were not chrome lined.
For a definitive you will have to wait till next Monday from me as I won't be near that article to confirm till then.
I would think the miroku made Citori would be the same, but I would not trust that.

I don't think they even had chrome lined chambers in 1977. The early Citoris I've had would rust just like the old Superposeds, in the chamber area. I think the chromed chambers came about later than that and I don't know that they ever had the entire bores chromed. OCICBW

I read the described situation and desired change several times and I can't say I understand it clearly.
If it has thinwall screw-in choke tubes in both barrels, what "fixed choke" are you trying to open up? I'm thinking you want to open up the screw-in choke tube? Why not find out what type of choke tube it is and buy another of the choke you desire?
If it has non removable sleeved chokes, they will not likely be chromed.

How how long are the choke tubes?
If the tubes are longer than the shot charge before they start to constrict, the bore at entry doesn't matter.
The tube acts as a jug choke.. and then is constricted down.
I understand your concern... someone didn't ream to bore size before they threaded for the tubes. But.. it may not matter much and it does give you a great gas seal on the tubes.
How does it pattern?

JLN - Its actually a Browning built by Miroku. Jim - I have two Superposed that I would like to open up but they're both RKLT FN guns so not an option. Chuck - The tubes are 3" down the muzzel and the original choke constriction starts 4 1/2" inches down and constricts to .708 in that 1 1/2" (to the beginning of the tubes). As Shotgunjones states, the bore's long choke constriction wasn't addressed by the individual that performed the work to install tubes. I'd like to open the pattern up to IC or SK but the original constriction to .708 that still exists in the bores precludes that option. Brownells has a piloted bore reamer of .725 that would do nicely IF the bores aren't chrome lined.
