I am thinking about buying another drilling and have found two of interest. What would be the better choice a Kreighoff Trumpf or a Merkel 96KE.

Thanks
John

How are they set up might make or brake a deal for me. I like the top tang safety.
Also what do you plan to use it for might help your decision about which one to choose.
Last but not least, which one do you like more?

Have a look a the book on drillings by Norbert Klups, (Schiffer Books) in case you have not seen it. It is extremely helpful and may open even more your choices.

I own and have read the same book. It does not contain information on Merkels that I can find nor is it particularily judgmental. Blue book values seem pretty similar. I guess what I was looking for if everything was equal which would be perferred in terms of intrinsic quality and value.

Thanks

The Merkel 96K is a blitz action and is pretty much a workhorse. The Krieghoff possibly has more options as far as barrel inserts and may have more resale value. You might also want to consider Blaser: http://www.blaser.de/D-99-Characteristics.138.0.html?&L=1 . And there always Heym, who holds the 1891 patent for a hammerless drilling.

Kind Regards,

I would look for Krieghoff Plus with light alloy action instead in kal. 20x20/6,5x57R, 7x57R, 7x65R. A .30-30Win rifled tube would be about perfect to have but that's about as easy to find as pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I would pick one w/o scope mounts as they just get in the way add weight and nothing else. Forget those old ones with rifle barrels chambered for obsolete stuff as they just extra weight with zero useful benefit to you. If you have to pick between Trumpf vs. 95k go with the Trumpf.
