I picked up a 311A, 20 bore to keep in the cabin, just in case. Well, now that I've hunted with it a few times I feel it's club like persona could use some refinement. Has anyone taken one of these and put the wood on a "diet"? You know, slim and trim.

The forearm and stock could stand to loose some mass and I feel it wouldn't hurt the function of the gun at all. I wonder if the stock could be shaped to more of a POW shape. Any suggestions?

Have at it. No great decrease in value when you alter one of these factory original guns, but the increased comfort and eye appeal will be well worth the time.

First thing is to figure what you want and then draw out the form on a large paper. Compare to what you have and take rough measurements. Say you need a 3/8" off each side of the grip, convert to a POW grip, ect.... Then start at the head of the stock and work backwards. The weight reduction will be several ounces but teh comfort increase will be much greater. A fat club works but is not fun to carry or shoot.

If you want, Numrich sells a replacement butt stock for about $68. You could hack all day and not worry about a mistake because you still had the original.

I "slimmed & trimmed" a Boito 20 ga one time, so that is slumming even more than a 311! I went to a straight grip, but you can have a POW grip if you want it on that gun
