J.B. Patton:
It's a target arm, probably German or sourced from Germany "in the white", in 8.15X46R on the Carl Wilhlem Aydt patent #31291 of February 16, 1884 proved in August 1928 in Germany possibly in Zella-Mehlis. It has a Wiener Schaft(Viennesse Stock) and looks to be missing the globe sight. This original System Aydt looks to be etched rather than engraved; how deep are the images? Are there any markings on the sides of the breech block that houses the hammer and how many grooves are there in the rifling? Your choices were 2, 3, 4, 6 and express rifling. I think the spangled "H" is for Haenel, but let me check it and the Austria side panel reference to Schmledeeisen, which was probably the firearm merchant address. Or it could have been made for one of the Tyrol shooters.
Kind Regards,
Raimey
