Hello!!
Recently acquired a Husqvarna M48 top lever hammer double (dolls head, double underlugs, 1909 made, backaction locks), 12X65 that weighs only 2,8 kg (6,16 lbs) with 75 cm barrels. Other Husqvarna hammer doubles with backaction locks (M51, M15, M20), top or underlever, I and friends have weigh about 3,17 kg (7,0 lbs) in 12 gauge and about 2,95 in 16 gauge, all with 75 cm barrels.
Were some of the early model Husqvarna top lever hammer doubles made with much lighter barrels or has this one had the outsides filed? The lighter weight of this M48 is clearly in the barrels.
The bores have been lightly reamed/polished, but only to less than 0,735 max (18,67 mm). Apparent wall thickness appears to be more than adequate. Both barrels retain the typical tight chokes.
This is a light, lively, deadly double with 24 and 28 gram loads. Just the thing for long walks after desert quail.
Unfortunately there are no weights given in Husqvarna Hagelvapen 1877-1977 and none in the 1932 Husqvarna catalog for these guns. Unfortunately, I lost Pettson's e-mail address sometime back.
Thanks,
Niklas
