Is there anything about the price of lead going up?

Our club got shorted on our last shot delivery--they were told there was a "shortage"...seems kind of sudden, especially with the last couple deliveries asking mid $20's/bag compared to mid 40's a year or so ago.

I don't think the price of lead had as much effect on cost, as the price to deliver it. Fuel was closer to, or at $5.00/gal. when lead was $40/bag

I know a man who is selling shot $20/bag FOB Huston. It is very nice quality and 5% antimony but you must buy a ton of one size. If you can work the freight it is a real deal. If you pay commercial rates OUCH! Try leadman9@flash.net

Supplies of lead around the world are relatively low. Lead production is a byproduct from the mining of other metals (zinc). Stocks of these metals are high and prices are relatively low so not as much lead is being produced. However, 75% of lead is for USED car batteries, and vehicles are being kept longer right now so lead consumption is at least steady if not a little higher. Chinese imports of base metals where high this last quarter. If they continue lead will not get any cheaper. I've heard rumors of other problems with lead supplies (LME), but am not sure.
Conclusion: Lead probably won't get cheaper and supplies are likely to be tight, but lead prices won't go way up in the short term unless the other metals also go up too (and I don't think this is likely).

If you are so inclined you can follow lead prices, sales, and inventory on the LME at metalprices.com. The London Metal Exchange is where the real world price is set.

Rather than try to adumbrate, foresee, surmise, anticipate, augur, conjecture, foretell, infer, portend, presage, presume, divine, envision, forecast, prognosticate, prophesy, vaticinate or hazard a guess about the price of shot by watching the lead commodity price.....
I'll look at gas prices (it's climbing 15 cents/gal per week) and talk to my ammo supplier. He says he has to charge $.50/bag more today than the last shipment and the next will be another $.50-75 more. The chicken entrails tell me it's time to make another big (for me) buy tomorrow. I rode the last roller coaster and I've yet to pay more than $23/bag.
