For around 60$ this place has stocks http://gunstocksinc.com/ - Give em an extra 10$ and they'll leave extra wood so you can make what you want . Or as Mike said , cut off the top , glue on some wood and make it fit . A little air brush or stain will hide the glue line and besides - it's fun . Paul

Rehashed material or not, I'm grateful for everyone who responded to my topic.

I've learned a great deal, and I now that I know some of the options I have, I'm prepared to get an older American classic (or 2) when find one (or 2) for the price I want. The National Gun Day show will be in town this weekend, so I'm sure I'll have a lot of guns to look at.

Now, I wonder if anyone at the gun show will be carrying any of those neck rings Chuck discovered...I believe 3 or 4 would do for me.

I would second the opinion that it's not too hard to find older guns with modern dimensions. Why go to the hassle of adjusting your shooting style or fiddling with wood when you could just get a gun that fits? My Lefever was built before 1905, and only has 2 1/4 drop. Fits like a dream.

I'm going to have one bent currently it's 1 & 7/8" and 3".
My friend says he can get an inch with a straight stock and less with a pistol grip.

I'll let you know how much he bends it. I'm hoping for 1 & 5/8" and 2". The gun has a sleak flowing pistol grip. Hopefully I'll have the results by next week.

I got my 1886 Scott Victoria back today. The drop points were 1 & 7/8" and 3" before he bent the stock up.
Now it's 1 & 11/16" and 2 & 1/16". I shot it today, better than I ever have before.

I like the brass neck-ring solution!
Chuck, that really cracked me up, and is about as reasonable as any other.

I adjust myself to the gun also- up to a point. Depending on how high you hold the gun on your shoulder, will depend on the bead placement. (Tom Knapp did a piece on this not too long ago.) When I shoot trap, like a lot of shooters, I put the toe of the stock in the pocket in my shoulder. I can do that with a pre war Model 21 or I can hold one normally if I want to shoot trap with a SXS. It depends if a shooter wants to "stack" the beads or align them up- one behind the other. If the stock has way too much drop then you can build up the stock with a foam pad if you don't want to change a vintage gunstock. But, maybe you just aren't finding a gun that has little drop. There should be plenty of them out there. There were a lot of six feet men who had large frames before the war that had guns that fit them.

Jimmy you watch way too much TV....
