Going to take the plunge on one of my guns that has a permanent home in the safe and have the oval engraved with my initial(s). Any pix you could share or links where I could see some different examples and styles would be appreciated. Any recommended engravers? Maxey

They can do that at any decent jewelry store, and give you a multitude of styles to choose from...Geo
ps: when you walk in with a gun, you may get a funny look from the lady behind the counter if you don't call ahead and ask to speak to the jeweler.

If the oval is attached to the stock which is attached to the receiver, I believe that legally the jeweler would have to have an FFL to work on a gun. I doubt the ATF is watching jewelers for breaking the law but........
So many guns, so little time!

I don't think the jeweler would need an FFL to work on the gun. But he would need one to receive it and store it while your not present. There again it comes down to the details, The jeweler would only need an FFL if the action was attached. If you removed the stock from the action at that point it's just a chunk of wood with a piece of brass inlaid in it.

I never would have thought about a need for an FFL. A buddy of mine is in the jewelry business and I've seen guns in his store for engraving pretty regularly...Geo

I just had an oval engraved for a friend's gun (retirement gift.) I first found an engraver who quoted me $175 to engrave the initials. She then recommended a gunsmith to inlet the oval into the stock: he quoted me $400 (!!). Instead, I ended up taking the thing to the corner jeweler, who did a great job with the engraving for $10. My gunsmith did a great job inletting the oval for $35!

Ken Hurst could do it, or Geoffry Gournet. Gournetusa.com lists initials at about $100, if I remember correct. I'm sure Ken is about the same.

I had Griffin & Howe re-engrave a plate which already had a previous owner's initals engraved. I don't remember the price, but it was reasonable and the work was well done.
