Hi All,

The forend on my new Sauer project gun is a bit loose and rattly. What areas should I consider addressing to tighten it up? It obviously cracked at some point in it's life as it has an acraglas repair. Does the wood against the bottom of the barrels hold it snug, or should the forend iron be tight against the barrels with no wood attached? It will be getting new forend wood (and matching stock) in the near future, but I'd like to make sure I address the slop first. The rest of the gun is rock-solid. I'll post pics as it develops.

The 4end iron should go on and be snug without the wood.

mark, that is not necessarily so, some are metal to metal fit to the action and barrels, some are also wood to metal at the barrels.

Jaybird,

Build up layers of black electrical tape on the underside wood of the forearm until it fits tightly. This will definitely tighten up the fit, but I know from a past post on this same subject, that this method will not be well received on this board. It would certainly be better to have a good gunsmith tighten it the proper way, whatever that is, but it will do the job until you decide to fix it correctly, and it won't cause any damage to the wood.
