I know this is an oddball request, but does anyone make reloadable 24 gauge pinfire shells? I see that Rocky Mountain makes 24 gauge brass centerfire shells and that there are 16 gauge pinfire shells available.

Mark, you could probably have some brass cases made. And here's a site that shows how to reload them: http://www.ehow.com/how_4862754_reload-antique-pinfire-shotguns.html . One royal pain in the a--!

The answer for those who need to ask is essentially a two step process
-forget about the wait and the price, as it's monumentally THE most cost-effective route
*then*
-contact Rocky Mountain Cartridge (RMC) and have them make you some pinfire cases for your gun/rifle

I own/shoot a few different high grade pinfire guns and rifles.
I build my own brass and tooling, each set specific to the gun or rifle. This works for me in that I have my very own machine shop, in my back yard, where I can put the time into the effort on a *whenever possible* kind of scheduling that doesn't screw with being a dad or a husband.
Getting from nothing to shooting is a bit of a process, but once you're set up it's as easy as anything else.

Just call RMC and do what the nice man tells you to do.
You won't miss the money (won't be much anyway) and once you're up and running you'll never regret having a proper running pinfire shotgun.

Mark,
CBC brass 24 gauge cases are available from Graf's. It is a bit of work but you can make your own pin-fire cases. It can be done with a minimum of equipment and a bit of experimenting.

Some of the work involved in getting central fire brass to run in a pinfire gun involves the use of a lathe and some relatively precise drilling and machining.

Don't get me wrong here guys, I fully encourage anyone who has the itch to go out into the workshop and fiddle around.
For the money though, having RMC knock out a box of cartridge brass for your old pinfire gun is a bargain.

The sooner you make the call, the sooner you can get out and run the thing.
Perhaps a good route would be to have RMC start on your request, then order a box of RMC central fire brass and see what you can come up with.
That way you can compare your results to the relative standard of what's available.
Do start with the call to RMC.

I contacted RMC this morning.

Dave said that if the gun in question has ANY chamber pits, brass shells CAN NOT be used. They will expand and conform to any roughness in the chamber making them difficult if not impossible to remove.

Chamber re-lining, if not barrel re-lining, may be the last option. This could make the gun in question economically unfeasible as a project.

Mark-

I've gone from 'sleeping beauty' to 'daily shooter' with 9 or 10 of my own pinfire guns and rifles, all break-open SxS sporting arms with proper period rimmed chambers (thin rims and typically shorter than modern standard chambers)

Some of these have had less-than-perfect chambers, and with the ones where things were less than ideal for very thin brass cases I just ran thicker case walls and never had to think about it again.
Chances are that your chambers were cut for thick paper cases.
The proper metallic surrogate will have case walls that will be thick enough that with loads that are anywhere within the realm of safety, you'll never have to resize them and they will never have a chance to flow or deform into chamber pits.

Did Dave note to you that he could build cases specifically for *your chambers* - did he suggest that you send him your barrels?

Can you email me photos of your 24bore pinfire shotgun, also including decent images of the chambers and bores?
I might be able to help point you to a productive solution if RMC doesn't work out for you.

I don't know if the personal messaging system on this site still works. I'll wait for your reply to this thread before I try to message you off-line.
