Anybody visited C.Sharps Arms in MT? I'm going to be helping my brother move to Seattle from Ft. McNair in DC in June and will be in that area (just in time to miss the Big Timber Gun Show--rats!). Thought we'd visit C.Sharps; I have one of their "1885" .30-40s and would like to consider a .25-35. But mainly I'd like to have my bro see a flock of SS replicas (addicts love to addict....).
Anybody dealt with them? I got my C.Sharps 'Wall used and wonder what ordering a new one from them is like.
Any opinions on the Sharps 1875? Does it work like a Sharps '74?

I have lots of friends in the BPCRS game and almost all of them prefer to deal with Shiloh Sharps rather than C.Sharps, for several reasons. I've never owned or even fired a C.Sharps but my own Shiloh was very impressive. Shiloh has an unsurpassed reputation for fair dealing and customer satisfaction while C.Sharps has had major issues in these areas in the past. Since they are right down the street from one another, why not visit both and form your own opinion? Regards, Joe

JD, the issue, however, is that Shiloh doesn't make an 85. And even Shilohs have issues. A model 74 in 25-35 seems a bit like a tofu burger at a pig roast.
I've visited their shop and the Shiloh shop as well. Both are well worth the visit.
A couple of English friends ordered a pair of 85s from them and had a friend take delivery and bring them to Raton last summer. Another friend shoots one at Lodi and does extremely well with it. They are fine rifles.
In a few days, I'll have direct data in my hands concerning another option - Wyoming Armory in Cody. My rifle was in Des Moines yesterday and should be shipped to the FFL today. They don't make rifles from scratch but if you have an action, they will build you one however you like it. Cody, Wyoming makes a nice stop to visit too. But maybe that is a bit out of your way.

Thanks, Joe; I'll try to visit both C.Sharps and Shiloh when I'm in town. Not interested in a '74 since I'm not a BPCR shooter (just a 'Wall Nut) but my brother might fall in love with one....although I suspect a '59 would be more his style.
Brent, NOTHING is out of our way--we're both retired (and have notes from our mommies).

To elucidate further:
Far as I know, C.Sharps rifles are as good as any and better than most, they have a great rep.
The C.Sharps owner OTOH has committed major ethical blunders in the past and has zero customer approval in many quarters, while the Shiloh folks are perceived as simply the best.
Yes, the Shiloh product has issues, IMO all sidehammer Sharps have several built-in design flaws that are then all too frequently exacerbated by inadequate manufacturing and QC. Firing pins and lever springs are the main culprits; the Sharps firing pin is major Rube Goldberg and can't be improved very much, but none of the sidehammer Sharps makers seem to be able to properly heat-treat their lever springs! As a side note, I was disturbed to find that apparently none of the makers of Winchester wall clones have been able to properly shape and heat-treat their firing pins, I've had to repair many for various BPCRS competitors!
IMO a stop at Cody beats a stop at Big Timber by a country mile, JMO. Regards, Joe

Big Stick is right down the road from Livingston (35 miles east). Travelers through the area tell me that Shilo doesn't encourage shop tours, even if you are ordering a rifle. C.Sharps is delighted to show you the shop almost anytime (my experience as well). Both generally have several examples of finished rifles on the wall in the show room, and they are virtually across the street from one another. Mike (& all) I welcome shop visits, especially if you call (406-222-9377) a day ahead, and usually have something of interest around for show and tell. I have no schedule to speak of so I'm either here, or I'm not. Cody is great for a visit anytime, not to mention Yellowstone N.P. just down the road from all of us. Best, Steve
