Please check the first 5 pics here http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/17434920
Anyone heard of 'The Imperial'? Thanks!
Baker was still in Ithaca in 1884.

Yes it looks like a C grade or Bativia Hammerless to me.

No doubt it's a Baker. The 'etchings' are Baker style. The patent is from Henry Allender in Detroit, MI. The patent is related to a sxs hammerless with a single trigger and hammer blocks. Other Bakers have the same patent. This 'Imperial' does have some interesting additional pins, and some that are absent from other Baker boxlocks.

An 1884 patent for a single trigger? Does anyone have access to that August 12, 1884 patent?

Yes, the patent is actually for the whole action and includes a single trigger. I don't have a scanner to produce a copy to post. I assume that the patent applied is regarding the hammer blocks as the action and single trigger are not the same.
Robert Chambers could share it... but people chased him off.
I did forget to mention that the serial number on that 'Imperial' fits right into the Baker numbers. An early gun.

Most of these I've seen are marked New Era.

Here is a picture of a Batavia Hammerless --

These guns smack of Frank Hollenbeck to me. I don't see anything in that patent that really applies to these guns. Then again, many Ansley H. Fox doubles carry patent dates that originally belonged to Philadelphia Arms Co.

Why would 'smacking' of Hollenbeck be a surprise??
Look at the pin placements on any of the mentioned guns, then look at the internals.

here is how to search the US patent office records for firearms related patents when you know the date, go to

http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/PTO/search-adv.htm

so for example if you want to search for a gun patent (classification 42) and you know the date
August 12, 1876

type in

isd/8/12/1876 and ccl/42/$

and click on the box that indicates you want the patents before 1976,

and this will give you all the firearms related patents on that particular day.
