Wow what a great forum for information. I am sort of a double barrel hobbyist. I pick old side by sides up that need tlc and try to bring back a little of that old magic. I seem to be more involved with the old Belgium type. However, I have recently found a few Spanish and some nice German ones as well.
One of my recent finds is an a very plain field gun with the Francotte Arms brand on the right barrel. It does not have the Francotte choke markings in the flats but it does have the "Crown over AF" markings on the water table.
I know people try to fake things. I can't believe someone would do that to a plain old field gun. I have read on this forum about some thing called a "knock about".
How do you identify this as being a one? Secondly, I am pretty good at bluing old side by sides as well as stock refinishing. I bought this one for just such a purpose since the bluing is very worn. Stock is in good shape.
