Chuck, I have seen several of the Bentley patent guns in auction catalogs. I think Lagopus' gun has the largest "hammer" spurs I have see.. Usually much smaller. Here's an Arthur Turner from Crudgington and Baker that has different spurs, but larger, too, than some. I guess I would call the Bentley pat. an outside hammer as the "almost inside the gun" hammer strikes an exposed firing pin.

Hi All: I'm new to the forum thing but a friend sent me the link and I thought I would respond. I actually have a Horton on the Bently patent that you all are talking about and would love to shed any light that I can. I actually think it was the Baker and Bently patent by name but would have to check on that. My gun is what I have been told was a Semi-Hammerless, and was produced during that wonderful transition era form Hammer guns to hammerless guns. The hammers do actually fire the strikers they are not just cocking indicators as some seem to think. It is in essence as self cocking hammer gun with an automatic safty that cocks and activates the safty upon opening the barrels. I bought mine from Mark Crudginton when over there for a visit a few years ago. I have seen the Turner gun that was in his father's book and it is truely wonderful. It is a 2 5/8" 10 bore. He will not sell it to me. The Turner is much more refined than most guns that I have seen on this action, more rounded and nicer sculpting of parts. The engraving is nicer as well. My gun was rebarreled in the 1930s and I hope to wear them out at some point. It shoots very well. Let me know if I can answere any questions for you. Drew.

Daryl, thats pretty much it, the one I remember has not such ornate hammers tho. It and its owner will be at the Raton shoot in May, and I'll get some pics. I liked the way it felt and shot...Seeya next week...Thanks, I'd like to see pics of Smooth Bores (hint)

Drew, welcome. Is your Horton a lever cocking gun like the Turner pictured above ? It would be neat to see pictures of your Horton. Here is another "semi hammerless" gun , which cocks by letting down the barrels. It is based on the Fukert patent.

Oh goodness. I think I have been tricked by friends to be here. Would love to see the gun in question at the Raton shoot but suspect I might be on the road trying to make a living. Just tell me who you all are so I know with whome I am dealing. I will tell the truth. Hope you all are men enough to not hide behind forum names!! Drew.

Hi: Thanks for the welcome. My Horton is not unlike the Turner that you mention. The hammers on mine are not as well done though. I have never seen a gun like the one that you are showing. I will do my best to get some photos of the Wee Horton to you all as soon as possible. Later. D.
