Following on from the "Birmingham Proof House" thread when the effects of a 20 bore cartridge in a 12 bore barrel came up, you might find this link of interest. Royal Military College of Science You'll need Adobe Reader. Eug

Eug; Extremely interesting. I also noted on the obstruction study that peak pressure occured @ 22mm ahead of the leading edge of the obstruction. I recall the explanation from this in Burrard as the fact the rapidly moving charge upon striking the obstruction of course started it moving but was slowed in the process. Takes that much movement for the gases to "Pile Up" behind the wads creating the high localized pressure point.

Mines a pint? Mines are usually planted sub-surface and detonated either by ground pressure from above the surface, or by a bottom fitted pressure device, spring loaded (similar in principle to a collapsed circuit detonator in an electrical fused IED)- and they did come in many sizes, going back to the War of Northern Aggression era- My hero CSA ge, N.B. Forrest often mined the path or trail behind is departing troops to wreak havov on the Union laddies following- Limpet mines and anti-sub mines are a whole 'nother "ballgame"- As they say in EOD- "You only get one mistake in this unit"!!

Actually it should read 'Mine's a pint' to which the reply is, 'Oh, thank you I'll have a pint of Original if you are getting them in'. You then procede to chat his lovely wife up whilst he is at the bar getting the drinks.

No harm in trying! God knows, I can be very trying. Interestingly, I was involved with making the test pieces for the BASC firearms display, the 20 in a 12 exhibit I tried to blow up a number of times, but all it kept doing was firing the twenty, so in the end I just sectioned the chamber. But I certainly would not like to hold a gun that had accidently been double charged.
