I know variations of this topic have been done before, but here goes.
I am leaving tommorow to study abroad for a semester in New Zealand. While there I hope to do some hunting. Problem is I have to get my gun license there before I can bring my gun over. So my question is, after I get my license over there, can I have one of my guns shipped to me in New Zealand via USPS? My concern is trying to bring the gun back into the country.
Any help would be great.

Storms, I think your problem is more likely to be on the NZ end rather than on this end. You might want to post a question specifically referencing NZ firearms laws and someone may have an answer for you. Getting it back to the States . . . I think you could fly back with it if you had an appropriate locking case. The one document you'll need is a US customs declaration, which you can get before you leave (probably when you ship it) to verify that it's your gun and you took it (or shipped it) out of the US. That way you should not have any problem either bringing it back to the States or shipping it back, and you won't have to pay duty on your own gun.

Storms, considering Steve's input, I'd take the gun with me and sort issues over there. Post is always a risk. (Of course the airline could loose your luggage, but...;-))

Storm, do follow Larry's advice and be specific in your question, mentioning New Zealand. We have distinguished members from those whereabouts that will surely jump in with good ideas.
