I am building up a list on all black powder cartridges, when they were made, who made them and the source of the info, does such a list exist? I have done some resurge and written it in on an excel document divided in 3 different sources, Rifle CF, Rifle RF and Pistol, I could mail the list to you and you could ad with your knowledge

The reason for this is that every time someone introduce a new cartridge there is a huge discussion about it being a black powder evolved cartridge or a smokeless. before one can use it.

Any info is appreciated, Thanks

Michael,

Your asking a question that could take a lifetime to answer. There were hundreds maybe thousands of blackpowder cartridges. It might be best if you list the reference books you have. Also you should be a member of the International Cartridge Collectors. I think they still have a web site. Most folks with years studying Sharps have a problem naming all the cartridges they made.

Cartridges of the World, originally by Frank Barnes is the most available and frequently referenced source for this type of info.
Early cartridge company catalogs, such as my 1899 Winchester reprint offer lots of contemporary info and distinguish between smokeless and blackpowder loadings.
