As a former "lurker" and now new member, I thought some of you may be interested in a project I started back in the summer. This is such a huge job that for sanity sake must be broken into small pieces. My time line is summer of 2011 for completion.

Those are some beautiful rifles. I'm particularly taken by the Trapdoor sporters. They look like they would handle like a shotgun and must be very handy hunting arms.

Beautiful work, Jim, and welcome to the forum! I especially like those trapdoor sporters...now you'll have me haunting gunshows for a donor action (like I don't have enough projects already!)

Excellent work all round, I'm looking forward to further pictures on the Alex Henry Action. You wouldn't happen to have the engineering or machinists drawings available for sale for the A-H would you?

Welcome Jim (perhaps we met at the Minn. Museum opening?)
Like the other fellows, I have really admired the Trapdoor sporters, they look sooo good without a wiping rod!
Good luck with the Alex Henry, I was not aware of he angled lockplate!

Jim, I have wanted to build a trapdoor sporter for years but finding a stock has always been a problem. Do you carve your own stocks or do you buy them somewhere?

Thinking about your next project Harry? Try either a Fraser or a Field falling block.... The Field would be easiest, of course.

Thank you all for the kind words.
Harry, sorry no drawings or the like. Using an original .450 for reference. Wal Winfers book on Alex Henrys does have some material you could use however.
Steve, We did meet at the MIA "Three Centuries" opening. I have enjoyed seening some of your work.
Norm, I goof up enough on my own and dont need to deal with others problems when trying to use a pre machined stock. They were done from a blank.
Jim
