Found in a box at an old smith's shop....

A large hammer, 2-1/4" top to bottom and 3/8" thick at the spur.

Another hammer for an external hammer gun, the shank is 5/16 square, the hammer is marked with a "B" and the small linkage has a "7" stamped on it.

A trigger with grooves along the sides, 1-7/8" top to bottom and it looks like the trigger is part of a 7/8" circle.

Finally a tool that looks like a front sight pusher but the part
that would contact the sight is 1/2", too big for a normal 3/8" dovetail sight and the long part is 2-5/8". I'm sure it's for installing something, just not sure what.

Any help would be appreciated.

Happy New Year to all,

Rob

The tool is a mainspring vise, If there is no "US" stamped on it anywhere then it might be a 1855 Contract-Manufactured model.

Two of the parts shown appear to be for a side lock.

Mike,

No "US" stamped on it. What model gun is this used for?

Ken, the second & third pics are of the same part.

Thanks, Rob

The spring vise (last two pictures) would have been used to compress the mainspring of the lock of a Springfield rifled musket or Trapdoor. Pictures 2 and 3look like Springfield "two click" tumblers for a rifled musket or early Trapdoor. Haven't a clue about the hammer in picture one or the trigger.

The upper hammer is for a Crosman 38c or 38T air pistol. Off the top of my head, the trigger is same. Air pistol parts.

They are powder metallurgy parts, and harder than the hobs of heck to drill or file, but cheap to produce.
(Heck, finally something here that I actually know about. sorta)

The mainspring vise could be anything from a bonafide antique, to a modern made tool for use with any lock that uses that style of spring.

Cheers
Trev
