First off, a big thank you to John Mann for allowing me to care-take the old 1883 Colt 10 gauge he had that was stamped in several spots AT&SFRR (Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad). Thanks John.
A big thank you to Bill Shodlatz for sending me 20 rounds of 10 gauge brass shells, appropriate wads and shot cards, and invaluable advice on how to load them, following a rookie question on this board about this old colt. Thanks Bill.
A big thank you to Peter Russo for sending me the hard to find Remington #57 primers to fit the brass shells. Thanks Peter.
A big thank you to Dale Edmonds for all the work he did re-blacking the barrels and bringing out the beautiful Damascus pattern on this old Colt. Thanks Dale.
A big thank you to Steve Bertram for all the work he did putting the old girl back on face to put her back in shooting condition. Thanks Steve.
Here she is on her first goose hunt with me last weekend on the Yellowstone River in Montana. The temperature was 28 degrees below zero, but I do believe it was about the most fun I’ve ever had. The big bore 3 ½ inch magnum semi-auto guys I hunted with were laughing at first, but were impressed in the end by how she performed. The load was 4 drams of Goex FFg and 1 ¼ oz of #2 Bismuth.
