I just picked up this gun last week. I know it is a WC Scott but the question is: was TR Hasdell "just" an importer or did he get the guns from England and finish them here? It has the original London (not Birmingham) proofs from the 1880's.

From what I have been able to read TR Hasdell did have a good reputation. I really havent been able to find much however, and my hope is that some members of this group may know more and can share... Thanks!

By the way, it is a massive gun! Does anybody have any experience shooting them? The bores are great. It seems to be a good candidate using proper loads of course.

Saw this fine gun at Louisville. Studied it and almost bought it-
Glad you have it. T R Hasdell was English trained, worked in Chicago 1870's -80's- known for his choke boring. Made guns on
W C Scott actions. Have a Hammer Gun engaved and signed by
Nimschke. Thought this gun might be so engraved but not sure.
This gun's # 700 mine #689 so in Hasdell # range. On rib
"T R Hasdell Maker Chicago" so Hasdell did something to it-
possbly stocked it. Fully proofed -must weigh over 11lbs.
E-mail me Fax or Address and I'll send some written info.

FWIW, RST makes very nice (albeit quite expensive) low pressure 2-7/8 inch 10 gauge shells in a variety of shot sizes and weights, including non-tox. That gun just cries out for a trip to a goose blind.

Thanks Bill, I looked at this gun early Saturday but the dealers wife was watching things and the gun wasnt priced, so I told her I would be back when her husband got back so he could price it to me. I came back and the seller, I forget his name (very nice guy BTW) liked a Winchester 1894 I had so we made a trade that I must say made both parties very happy. This gun is certainly going to a blind very soon. I am going to order some nice shot for it ($---ouch!). I will e-mail you soon for info.

I will post more pics soon.

Heres another:

No, the top lever is marked " TR Hasdell Maker, Chicago ILL"

I also looked up his name in "British Gunmakers VOL 1 London" and he is listed in the "Alphabetical List of all London Gunmakers and related Trades" as having been on 150 St John St Rd 1862-66.

So, I can assume he did quite a bit more than just inport the gun. Just what he did do is still a mystery to me, but I can assume it had to do with finishing the gun.

From the photos it's obvious it's a Scott Triplex Lever Grip.
