This gun looks to be made by a S.L.Arani, Aramk, Aran__ ?

Anyone here familiar with the maker or with the other proof marks on the water table? Looks to be a fairly nice box lock with some high grade features:

thanks,

Try http://personales.jet.es/rafa/b_punzones.html

I couldn't see it there, though.

Couldthe CH in the shield be

CRUCELEGUI HERMANOS C. H.

?

Anyone ever see one of these guns before?

No, the CH in the shield is a common proof stamp. Most Spanish guns have them.

Now that A.O. is a different story. That could be the maker's stamp, but again I don't see anything listed. Can we see pics of the rest of the gun? The barrel flats would help. It looks like S.L. ARANO to me.

David Dabaco is correct about the "CH" in the shield and it is the re-enforced smokeless proof for scattergun tubes at a pressure of 12.8k psi while the "BP" in a shield notes voluntary/optional smokeless proof at 12k psi. I wonder if it was re-proved? I also agree that it's ARANO and sometimes the "S.L." is for sociedad limitada but it is usually after the name and I think the term to be a 21st century one. The 4 stamps of the crossed "arrows"(3?) thru a "shield", or whatever, are interesting. Anyone have idea of the marks above "Made in Spain"?

Kind Regards,

Raimey

I would say modern re-enforced smokeless proof should be at least 120MPa. It doesn't look it, but is this thingly really old?

The S. L. does suggest a limited liability or "single location" business but could just as easily be initials of a name. American importers sometimes stamp the underrib; could this be such a stamp (importer or exporter) placed on the action flats instead?

A photo of the barrel flats would help date the guns proof and maybe the maker. I am curious what the "C.10.88.8" is for, 1808 must be the serial#

I would think that the 10 88 8 would refer to the date of manufacture?

It looks to me that it could also be Sociedad Limitada ARANGO, it is a more typical Spanish name,.... and there is something on the webb about a maker with that name

Best
