I have a 1911 A grade with 30inch, #1, Krupp steel barrels. Several years ago winchester made a reproduction paper shell that is 1 1/4oz of #6 shot. Do you think it would be ok to shot these loads. I figure this gun would have been used with high brass loads for waterfowl, and I'm sure would have shot a lot of them at some point. It has been opened up to 2 3/4 inch chambers. A local dealer has a bunch of them left from years back and is selling them for $12 a box. I think that would be a cool load to pheasant hunt with in the old Fox!

Thanks

I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a few when the situation called for it, but it is really impossible to tell someone over the internet what load may or maynot be suitable in a given gun.

I have shot some of those 'chilled shot' enclosed in burgundy colored paper tube and they did seem quite stiff to the shoulder. Why bother when you can get Fiocchi papers for about half that price. At least that's what I paid for them three months ago at local Gander Mountain. I use those 1oz and 1&1/8oz 1100fps loads in my sub 6lb Remi 31.
Buy few of them white boxes just to have them. Don't get me wrong the Winchester repros have higher quality case then those Fiocchis, but I would still choose those mid-western black shells for shootin' swamp bunnies, squirrels, ......and such.
If I had to pay top buck I would go with Federal 'Gold Medal' papers every time.

Short chamber (2 5/8) short forcing cone = big kick and stock abuse. The gun is strong but if it were my shooter I would lengthen the forcing cone.

The price is quite good if you want couple for ambiance in a gun room. I used to pay about $8 in mid to late 90s when whey were readily available. The case is better quality then Fiocchi or 'Gold Metal' and "disc closure" is neater then star crimp.

I've been using these folks for quite some time for my 16ga Parker and Ithaca Flues model shotguns. They work great on pheasant, quail & grouse.
