Friend of mine lost the decorative steel tip surrounding the forend latch on one of his Greenfield SxSs. Is there a term for this doohickey, other than 'forend tip furniture'?

Also, as the gun is one of a cased, matched pair built in 1906, is there anyone who could fabricate a duplicate?

I call it the pushrod escutcheon but I like forend tip furniture also. Or it is a "bedat" as in Whatbedat?

Maybe doohickey OK also as in What do this little hickey do? Escutcheon seems to fit pretty well with one of the dictionary defs, to wit, "the protective plate around a keyhole." The pushrod goes thru it and unlocks the forend catch so key, keyhole and keyhole protector seem apt.

Thanks, rabbit, 'forend escutcheon' it is!

Somehwre, some artisan must be able to fabricate a match for the forend escutcheon on my friend's other Greenfield. The pair is too nice to be left incomplete.

Any recommendations?

Maybe ferrule also although it's sort of a half or three-quarter ferrule. Is the plate and recess around a Deeley latch also an escutcheon?
