Hi Folks,

Does anyone know if the 20 Ga. SW's were available w/ 30" bbls., and if so, do they ever come up for sale anywhere?

The reason I ask is that I have a beautiful 1928 20 ga. SW with 26" barrels that I bought several yrs. ago. The gun would be 98%-99% both in wood & metal (blueing Case coloring etc.) if not for a "U" shaped hairline crack in the stock that runs from one side of the throat area, around the back of the Tang to the other side .

I was so far off into LaLa land when I saw this gun advertised in the paper and went to look at it that I never noticed the crack at time of purchase. And of course the seller never mentioned it to me. I noticed it a few days later and was going to get my $$$ back (seller would not discount but would give me a full refund).

But then I got to thinking that .... well, I paid $1,100 for the gun, and I assume that the crack would negate any collector value, so worst case senerio is I've got a nice little 20 ga. shooter SW for that price so I decided to keep it... I guess life could be worse.

Back to the BBL. question, mine are 26" I haven't determined chokes as I don't have a choke gauge yet. FWIW bores measure 0.600 & 0.614 at muzzle.

Being as we don't have much in the way of upland hunting in my area, I was wanting to find some 30" bbls. if possible, to add a bit of weight and use the gun for some Dove hunting. Been keeping it in the safe way too long now!

Sorry for the long post.... but these Fox guns just get me all worked up

Appreciate any info you may have, and thanks for listening.

The crack can be repaired easily and depending on how bad and old it is, can be made invisible b y a good wood man. That in itself doesnt always hurt value. More to it than that. If the gun is otherwise original, $1100 for a 20 SW is a damn good buy. In the condition you describe, thats a steal. If you dont want it since its cracked Ill take it off your hands. LOL!!!

Hi Brian,

And thanks for the reply. I'm sure the gun is all original. A little history of the gun as I was told by the guy whom I bought it from (who was in his 40's at the time)said his GrandDad had bought it new for his GrandMother to shoot skeet with.

But after shooting it a few times she didn't like shooting, and the gun has been cased / unused since (makes one wonder just how the stock got cracked though). It came with a very old and "weathered" looking Leg-O-Mutton case as well.

Appreciate the offer to relieve me of its burden, but I believe I'll just tough it out and keep the gun

I notice your location listing, Thank You for serving. May God speed and return home safely.

Why not? It's a different forum with different users, that may have different ideas / input. I was only asking for information from sources where I know people are much more knowledgable than I. My understanding is that is what these boards are for.

I've never had any prior communication with you, I certainly don't know you, nor do not care to, SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR PROBLEM IS AND REALLY DON'T CARE .

AND QUITE FRANKLY, UNLESS YOU ARE A MODERATOR OF THIS BOARD,
I DON'T BELIEVE IT IS ANY OF YOUR BUSINESS WHAT, WHERE OR WHEN I POST.

As far as I'm aware I'm not in violation of either forum's rules, and if I am, then I'll wait to hear from a Moderator and withdraw my post per THEIR request if they deem it necessary.

I apologize to the other forum members whom may have read this.
