BOY! It's been ages since I've been on this site. The whole dang thing looks so different I'm having a disorientation panic attack. But it DOES feel good to be back.... With that said, I still haven't shot my beautiful Westley Richards 1890 Damascus beauty that was Birmingham proofed for 2/34" NITRO back in the Eighties.

I'm getting old and with age comes caution. I'm not sure, but I think "hell's bells, caution to the wind" is the next stage in the aging game, but I ain't there yet.

So, yeah, I'm thinking of firing some BP shells through this beauty first. I know, I know, but don't start calling me pansy or it'll take even longer before I get back here.

I believe a few years back KENT were the sole purveyors of such an item. Have any more jumped on the bandwagon since, and if so, or even if not, where/how is the best place to get some?

By the way, it's good to see "Thorny" is still in the business of caustic goading and first rate humor. I feel like I've just gotten home!

ps - I had it all planned - I was finally going to be able to sell some inherited stock and splurge on a few new (OLD) doubles. We all know the toilet where that plan now floats...........sigh

K-Kid, get some Federal Vintage 2 3/4 loads. They are smokeless and at 5000 psi substantially below BP loads--around 8,000 psi as I recall. Midway is the only source as far as I know http://www.midwayusa.com. I have used them exclusively in my 1892 Phillip Webley for the past two years. --Jack

Gamebore load an excellent 1oz of No.6 black powder cartridge with rolled turnover and paper case. They do have US outlets that will supply anybody by mail order.

http://www.gamebore.com/game-loads.asp will take you to their website and you can contact their manager, Paul James [paul@gamebore.com] about suppliers or shipments. He is very helpful.

I also use their 65mm case, fibre wad 'Pure Gold' in all my nitro proofed guns. They are very consistent and ideal for game shooting with old guns having 2 1/2" chambers.

Krakow Kid, Midway won't ship to Massachusetts.
I tried to order overshot wads and nitro wads and they wouldn't ship them, I got a notice that they will not ship any part of a cartridge to Mass.

Republic Metallic Cartridge (google it) makes a line of BP shells for the Cowboy Action shooters. I've used their loads for turkey and they worked just fine in my damascus Syracuse Lefever...Geo

Smallbore, I think Gamebore have stopped production of Black Powder ammunition. I was told by someone that he had just bought up the remaining lot. Don't know if it is true or not.

If it's 2 3/4 Nitro Prof then there is plenty of range of ammunition available. If you want to use black powder then the best way is loading your own; and a whole lot less expensive too. Lagopus.....

Lowell - Thanks, it's good to be back on. Although I went through a period where I had to sell nearly all of my guns (more than 30, and some real gems included), I did manage to hold onto my Westley & Richards and my 1924 Jeffery (my main hunting gun).

Another poster said he didn't think Gamebore has stopped production of all BP ammo. Do you know if this is true, or more to the point, where do you purchase your shells? They might have a good inventory in case this is true. I remember you fed BP to your beautiful Lang, if memory serves me well.

The Lang is just a memory, but good of you to remember - now they go into a Remington 1894 AE 12ga.
I bought mine many years ago from Galazan's - I hoard em!

Game bore just sent me a load of BP shells (this week) and did not mention they had stopped production. I'll find out!
