I have a few old scopes my dad bought when we lived in Germany. I would like to mount one on my Ruger #1 RSI but can't seem to find rings to fit it. The 1" rings are to small and 30mm are way to big. Can anyone tell me what size I need and where I can find a set? Thanks -JB

Probably 26mm rings, I'm not sure who still makes them. They are available on Ebay from time to time but it's going to depend on the bases you want to use. I was able to find a set of Weaver 26mm a while back to use with a Kollmorgan scope I had. Kollmorgans were all 26mm.
Does the #1 have the integral scope mounts or is it D&T'd for mounts?

RR, It has integral mounts. I bought a micrometer today and the tube is in fact 26mm.
MC, What can I do to make the 1" rings work? Thanks again, JB

JB, there were also some German scopes with 26.5mm tubes and I think even 27mm, so double check your measurements.

26 mm Rings are not that tough to find. Leupold makes them and there a quite a few other manufacturers that sell Weaver type. Just Google 26 mm rings.

You might be able to lap or ream a set of Ruger 1" rings out to 26mm, depends on how thick the ring walls are, you need another .02362 or half that off each ring wall. EAW makes a set of 26mm rings for a Ruger #1 but it requires that you D&T the receiver. Good mounts but expensive.

This piqued my curiosity so I made an inquiry over on the gunsmithing forum and got some good advice for you. The emery cloth and 1 inch bar seems the way to go. Making 26mm Ruger Rings

Thanks RR! I think I will give it a try and if they don't turn out right I will have a gunsmith take care of it. Thanks again to all of you for your responses -JB

Buy or borrow a micrometer and measure them yourself before you do anything else. That's step one. If you want to have a set of mounts made of any description you can imagine, Steve at clawmounts.com can do any type of custom scope mount machining. He can make traditional clawmounts, or a custom mount of your, or his design. And as others have said, you can also possibly get machining done on standard Ruger rings but if you remove too much metal, the caliber of your rifle and recoil might come into play if you're shooting a heavy magnum.
