I have seen a couple of post WW-I Fox doubles that were roll stamped on the tops of the barrels Chromox but you could still see the Krupp markings on the underside of the tubes. Unfortunately I've never purchased such a gun. After WW-I lots of folks didn't want those Heinie barrels on their gun. I can't fathom any reason a set of Lefever barrels should be marked Krupp on the exterior and the underside and also carry the LLH. Very perplexing!!!

The tube-makers -- Krupp, Whitworth, L.Lochet-Habran, Didiere, etc. -- sold rough tubes to the American double gun manufacturers who then made them into barrels. The imported rough tubes came in at a much lower tariff then a finished product. Sanderson Bros. & Co. set up in Syracuse to make tubes here.

I think we're both spitballing along a similar path, Jon, with the "brand name" thing and Krupp's fabulous and later, infamous, rep. I have seen one Fox on which the final three or four letters of Essen appeared to have been enhanced by vibrator engraver. Not a pro fakir but an appreciative sort no doubt. Would this indicate a partial scrub by striking?

Keep in mind, that though LAC sold to Ithaca prior to WWI, Ithaca continued to sell Lefevers till about 1920. One clue for identifying an Ithaca built/assembled gun is bbls marked LLH. It may well have been (regardless of SN) a post WWI gun & the tubes have been Krupp. They could then have been stamped LLH for the above reasons, or simply by mistake.

I have a history of Krupp about 2 1/2 thick. They certainly made armaments, I don't know about shotgun barrels.

"Krupp produced tanks, artillery guns, munitions and armaments for the German army. The company was also responsible for moving the factories from allied occupied territory to German territory towards the end of the war.

In the 1930s, Krupp developed two 80cm railway guns, the Schwerer Gustav and the Dora. These guns were the largest artillery pieces ever fielded by an army during wartime, and weighed almost 1,344 tons. They could fire a 7-ton shell over a distance of 37 kilometers. However, they proved extremely inaccurate in Sevastopol during the prolonged shelling, and were more a massive logistical liability than an artillery asset, sharply condemned by the troops.

More crucial to the operations of the German military was Krupp's development of the famed 88mm anti-aircraft cannon, a famously effective weapon that also became a deadly anti-tank weapon and tank gun".
