Mr. Petrov,

I recently came across a post of yours on a genealogy website requesting James V. Howes obituary. I have not been able to find his obituary either, or what cemetery he is in. One search on "findagrave.com" didnt match his birth or death dates with any grave? Was Mr. Howe in the military? The reason I ask is because about the closest search on that website came up with this Mr. Howe, who died in the same year but not in March. This Mr. Howes birth date is also not the same, but the thing that caught my attention was it is in Maryland (where our Mr. Howe was born correct?) Here is the link. Maybe you know a little more information that could be helpful in the search (possibly a different first name, different dates, etc?)

Sorry can't help with the obituary.

I managed to find this signed copy of his book. Thought it was pretty cool.

Stu, That's great I have several signed books in my library but have never found a JVH. Enjoy!

I have a similar set also so I doubt they are real rare. I bought mine because the books were in nice shape at an attractive price. The signature was just an added bonus. I figured at the time by the price asked they couldn't be anything to special. They are a great reading material though, lots of things discussed in them.

These original first 2-book Howe sets came in 2 versions, the more expensive with leather trim and bindings. I've seen several of each but the less-expensive were not signed (4 sets) and both of the more expensive ones (2 sets) were signed.

My own example? The latest El Cheapo combined/one-volume issue, all I care about is the information so I sold my original early set to a collector.
Regards, Joe

When I bought this set I was just looking for the books. As per Idared above, the signatures were an added bonus. There always seem to be copies available on Ebay.

Stu,

I have the exact same singed books as you, and as others have. Yours are in much better shape than mine. Ill have to scan the signed portion of mine, but Im pretty sure from what I remember it says the same thing. Nobody has any leads on the author yet though??
