Reading the fine print on the barrels tells you that this was a 12 gauge gun that was for 2 3/47" or 3" shells. The picture of the barrel end shows what a crude liner looks like when used to convert a double into a fence post. If I was going to Africa, and this was the only gun that I could have, I would buy a camera.

So I guess the "barrel regulators" allow you to adjust the point of impact of each barrel?

Is 10-1/2 pounds heavy enough for a .470?

I know very little about double rifles. They are just interesting to me, like Ferraris or F-16s.

Best,

Mike

10-1/2# would be fine for a 470 as it'd essentially be a 458 of that weight. the 500 jeffery i built only goes 11 after adding 10oz of lead to the butt and it's not unmanageable at all.

in this case i'd be more concerned about the stock than i would my shoulder. i think it was flaigs back when the red label came out that did up a 375 o/u for john amber on that action and if i remember right (think is in the '78 gun digest) the conversion ran about $4k back then. but a 375 is a different kettle of fish from a 458 class round. and an o/u DR just would not be the same as a sxs.

you'd never get another DR that cheap but personally i'd shy away from this one. it may be perfectly fine but it looks like some kluged up affair. i'm sure the bss receiver is really strong but i'd have some concerns about it too. it just doesn't look like a good idea.

Wasn't it Dakoda Arms that started building double rifles with the BSS as the base. I know Kirk Merrington built one for Briley useing a Parker Repo when he worked for them.I believe it was a 30-30. Kirk said he would only use BSS's if he ever built another.

I'd rather use one of my Nitro Specials with slugs. The Browning makeover stinks. Chops

I don't know for sure but would bet Dakota didn't. There doubles are very nice. A BS/S is well ....a BS/S. Searcy used some BS/S's at the beginning to build a bunch of SxS's.
