I have been all over the internet looking for a 26" canvas breakdown (softside padded) case. Plenty of 28" but can't find 26". I've checked Boyte, Filson, Orvas et al.
Any input welcome!

I recently bought a 28" Boyt for a 28" gun and there is no room to spare. Unless external size is critical, I'd consider a 28" case for a 26" gun.
A Springer Spaniel, a 6# double and a fair day to hunt.

Problem is not so many were made because many of the early guns were longer barrels so you don't see many older ones floating around. I picked up a 26 inch Folsum Leg o mutton case in OK condition and figured I would upgrade. That was about 15 years ago, you just can't find the small ones. I'm lucky to have that one. If you have one and want to sell it my email is in my profile. I think so many of the companies just made the 28 inch to fit either the 26 inch or the 28 inch guns.

I've picked up two 26-inch leg-of-mutton cases over the years, one real nice McCormack reconditioned A.F.&Co. and one cheapie, but they are both for small guns. My .410-bore and 28-gauge NIDs and my .410-bore Crescent. Can't get any of my 26-inch barrel 12-, 16- or 20-gauge guns in them. Still looking for a nice LoM for my 26-inch barrel very early C-Grade Fox.

go to cabelas site and search for "t. b. gunn". i've got 2 of those in suede and noticed they're on closeout even cheaper than i got them. i think i'll buy some more even tho i don't need them. the short one is 31" outside, not 26" but are still handy. they're made well enough but the design isn't totally satisfactory to me. the pockets sewn in aren't in quite the right place and a 12 ga o/u or particularly sxs makes the case a little fat around the barrels with the gun in it. minor point but it irritates me. doesn't lay as flat as it could. still, they're pretty good and do protect the gun well.

another one you might check out is an uncle mikes (i think) i got from midway. was on sale at the time for $25. is mostly nylon with leather (real or not i don't know) trim. was dark green, padded well with velcro latch pockets for the butt and barrels. as far as design i like it better and it's also made well but it's not as attractive as the t. b. gunn. worst thing about them, i got them in tan suede and it has a grease spot for everything that gets within 15' of it.

Check out the leg of mutton or handy case at Quality Arms. Both are easy to convert to a shorter barrel case
