Nice nice nice. Now how is it shooting? It occurs to me that your email request for sight setting implies that this one is a .45-90 after all. 1350 in a .45-70 seems fast but maybe you are using 3f. Anyway, how is it doing on the targets so far?

Brent

Now Ben, Ken tells me he ain't got no pigs in his yard.

Brent: It is a .45-70 and I am using 3f, 72 grains of it with the 500 grain bullet. It seems to be shooting pretty well, but obviously load development has been limited. Still, it seems to be shooting about 1-1/4 minute and I expect that to improve just a little bit and the rifle settles in. It only has about 30 rounds through it.

Michael: Yes, I will be shooting it at Lodi. No better place do do barrel break in than at a world creedmoor match...

Gentlemens:

Thanks again for all kind words. There is no craftsman who doesn't like having his work appreciated. In light of that, it is time for credit where credit is due.

The wood is a graduation present from my good friends at Quaking Aspens. It is a fabulous piece of wild black walnut with a layout that is perfect for this rifle. Thanks Cathy and Ray!

The action is a somewhat modified Frank Wesson #1 Long Range reproduction by Mr. Steve Earle. This action is without question the finest I have ever worked with. Both the workmanship and materials are perfect.
Steve Earle <steven.m.earle@comcast.net>

The barrel is from Green Mountain, as are all the barrels on my big bore target rifles. I have had very good success with GM barrels and a positive relationship with the company. Good barrels at a fair price shipped promptly. What's not to like?

The stock work was done by Mr. Doug Mann. Doug is a Guild stockmaker (and it shows) and a good friend of mine. It is really fine workmanship.

As noted before, the metal scratching is by Mr. Ken Hurst. You really have to hold it in your hands to appreciate the detail and scale of the work. Mr. Hurst out did himself on this one.
Ken Hurst <kenhurst@suddenlink.net>

The color case hardening was done by Classic Guns. It was hard to take those beautiful colors off the frame when I grayed it, but you can still see the colors on the block and lever. Classic does fabulous color hardening, and it is real case hardening, not just colors. Knowing that I was against the wall trying to finish the rifle in time, Classic turned the work around in one day. My thanks to the good folks at Classic!

This is a target rifle, and therefore only as good as its sights. The front globe and rear tang sights chosen for this rifle are from Jim Kluskens at Distant Thunder Shooting Products.

The butt plate and grip cap, as well as the rest of the metal work and the rust bluing were done by the head mook here at Mook Machine Works in fabulous downtown Waterford, Wisconsin, USA.

Here is one more picture of the rifle in situ. It appears like it is going to shoot pretty well. The rest is up to the operator...

Best to all,

Glenn

Glenn Dude,

Gorgeous! How about a picture (when you gets time) of the rifle with that purty Alex Henry forend?

Mr. Ken...you did a wonderful job on the portraits on the sides of that action...why, I'd recognize the "head Mook" anywheres...and the portraits of me and The Anthony on the offside are wonderful as well.

Doug...Flawless! I can only wish I was that good.

Hope to see you guys at Friendship next month...now go forth and win a medal with that new rifle!

Greg

Hay Glenn,

The rifle looks wonderful now that all the pieces-parts are in one place. I sure wish you were bringing it to Alma this weekend so I could see it in first person. WOW that's nice!

Greg... thanks for the kind words. As to the Alex Henry forend, if his lazy butt stockmaker friend would get off the dime and finish checkering it...... He don't need no stinkin second forend to shoot next week anyway.

Ken's engraving on the rifle is wonderful and I did notice a certain resemblance to Mook on the right side but he did forget to put glasses on you two guys on the left side.

Doug

Simply stunning in all aspects! If there were a Mt. Rushmore for gunmakers, your portraits would all be there.
