Went for a couple of rounds of skeet today, and had a guy approach me to show me his new verney carron s/s....i looked at it...32" barrels Full and Full, weight was like 9.5 Lbs...i laughed at him, said it was a cannon! not for shooting skeet.
Then i fired it....
1st trigger fires R barrel, rear trigger fires both! so if u pull rear triger 1st, it discharges both barrels simultaneously!...At first i thought something was wrong with it, but on closer inspection, pulling the rear trigger also pulls back the front trigger, wheare as the front trigger opperates on its own!
Weird stuff...i thought id seen it all until then!
Thought id share with u guys...any other makers making guns like this?.....Why? :-)

If that is indeed the way the maker intended the gun to work then my guess is it is from the market gunning days. When shooting ducks on the water they would want as much shot in the air as possible. A gunner would be able to use this gun normally by going front to back and use the back trigger first to flock shoot.

Just my opinion.

Two barrels at once! That make the 9.5# seem a bit light. How much more sky are you really covering with full and full choke. I'd think that you would be better off taking a proper shot at two individual birds one barrel at a time.

I'd like to peek inside the gun's innards. I'm very curious if it WAS made that way or if it has some sort of malfunction. Wouldn't be hard to figure out, with a look inside. JL

Jim, its actually made that way! The 1st trigger visibly moves with the pulling of the rear trigger...Apparently the owner said its a design feature as per the guns manual..
Its all new to me...

Well, the French call it "canardouse", from the French for "duck". They are indeed made this was. The point is, anything bigger than 12 gauge has been illegal in France for about 100 years, so that's the answer. It's supposed to work like this: you're in a blind, and if a real big flock - big enough to warrant a punt gun - lands in the decoys, you pull the rear trigger, and use the gun as a 8-gauge single shot equivalent. Or you can use it like a normal duck gun, your choice. Makes sense, sort of, if you're the kind of person who looks at those old 8 and 4 bores with awe.

I prefer double triggers for the choice of chokes, but always wondered why for guns with the same barrel constriction. So now it seems that there is a valid reason to have double triggers on a gun with the same choke in both barrels. Not very sporting, but an interesting idea.

I always think I am pretty well equipped for a 70 yard shot with my full choked ten bore firing 2 1/4 ounces of buffered twos. If I were to have a setup like the mentioned Leslie Caron (is that the correct name?), I could fire 4 1/2 ounces of mixed buffered twos and BBs and have a legitimate 95 yard duck or goose killer if I can point it right. Into the workshop for some piano wire surgery. Murphy

I'm thinking you'd just end up with a headache.
Best,
