Best selling novelist and former Navy SEAL Jack Carr.
Anyone recognize what he's shooting?
Ziegenhahn & Sohn aka Kreighoff Essencia
Book bidness must be pretty good
I remember the first one I encountered in a gun shop in Ohio. The one in the picture looks to be more typical in finish to that original "standard" gun with the exception of the rather ornate gold eagle in place of the gold Krieghoff name. The ones in the listings have a much heavier and bold engraving pattern and a bright finish. I have never seen one like those before.
Nice guns. I have looked at one or more at the Krieghoff USA works in Ottsville, PA. Word has it that Krieghoff does not manufacture these guns. I don't remember who does.
My wife and I visited Jens in 2009. They make excellent guns and rifles. His shop is very high tech with wire and spark eroders as well as CNC machines.
He still performs a lot of hand work as he will not compromise on the style and quality that only hand work can produce.
I met his father who told me that he apprenticed with Otto Weiss in Suhl in the early 1950's.
Jens also had a passion for motorcycle racing but had to give it up to run the shop. I have a lot of pictures we took but sorry, I don't how to post them.
James,
If you have a picture you would like up on the board, you can email it to me, and I’ll get it up for you. Click on my name, click on profile, my email address is there.
Merry Christmas.
Best,
Ted
The Saturday, December 23d, Wall Street Journal had a 2/3 page article on him including this photograph.
I saw the WSJ article as well but couldn’t see any reference to the Essencia. The firearms mentioned in the article were all “black guns” as befitting a SEAL. However it is nice to see he also appreciates fine doubles. I was trying to decide…12 or 20?
