Last fall I watched Jim Shockey (on YouTube) play a clip of Prime Minister Trudeau justifying an Order in Counsel banning the possession of certain types of firearms by stating, “These weapons were designed for one and one purpose only: to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time.” Shockey then holds up his English made double rifle and states that it is now prohibited. It is classified the same as a machine gun. I’ve watched for further information about this but haven’t seen anything.

Could you, our friends above the border, update us?
Are double rifles now illegal in Canada?
Are all doubles illegal?

On May 1, 2020, the Government of Canada has prohibited:

nine (9) types of firearms, by make and model, and their variants;
firearms with a bore of 20 mm or greater, and those firearms capable of discharging a projectile with a muzzle energy greater than 10,000 Joules;
the upper receivers of M16, AR-10, AR-15 and M4 pattern firearms.

An idiotic rule intended I assume to ban .50 bmgs and the like also affects most large dangerous game cartridges

By the letter of the law, 12 gauge shotguns with choke tubes could be considered illegal. It’s a very poorly worded law. But at the moment, as 375Whelen points out, the problem is the muzzle energy level, not a specific caliber. So big bore doubles, yes probably prohibited. Smaller bore, less likely.

10000 Joules (j) = 7,376 Foot-Pound Force (ft lbf)
The only cartridges which push over 10,000 joules of muzzle energy are Anti-Tank rounds, Heavy Machine Gun Rounds, and Elephant Gun Rounds.
Gosh there goes my plan to use a .458. No wait that only makes 7235J. My 600 Nitro Express could still be an option if I keep the 900 gr (58 g) bullet under 1,950 ft/s (590 m/s) because that load produces 7,600 ft⋅lbf (10,300 J). But the
900 gr (58 g) bullet at 1,850 ft/s (560 m/s) 6,840 ft⋅lbf (9,270 J). Talk about a law which has no real value except to make the uninformed think you are doing something. 50BMG is out unless you can load it down. Wonder if he had a 600Nitro Express or was just using a legal gun as a prop?

Historic anti-tank rifles butchered as well truly shameful.

I confess to not knowing procedures in Canada. Is this order being corrected to apply only to the Prime Minister’s stated purpose of those weapons designed “to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time.” or will dangerous game calibers and the rifles chambered for them remain illegal to possess?

Whenever you hear an anti-gun politician make that statement, you should remember that one of the worst mass murders in American history did not involve the use of a $1000.00 semi-automatic AR-15. It involved 87 people being killed by an arsonist using about a dollars worth of gasoline. That is 28 more people than the worst mass shooting in U.S. history:

https://www.nydailynews.com/new-yor...-bonx-social-club-1990-article-1.2152091

And the very worst school massacre in American history also did not involve the use of semi-auto rifles or handguns. It involved the killing of 44 people, including 38 students, when a disgruntled school janitor planted bombs in a school:

Then there was the 2016 attack in Nice, France that killed 86 people, and injured 458 others. Again, no firearms were involved. The murder weapon was a 19 ton truck driven into a crowd:

Sociopaths and violent killers will always find a way to commit murder. Anti-gun laws are simply a smokescreen. But anti-gun Liberals will continue to use every shooting in their quest to eliminate your gun rights. The only way to stop them is to wake up and stop voting for them. You all saw one Liberal Democrat here on this forum cry almost non-stop about alleged Trump lies for the last four years. But you never heard a peep from him when his Democrats lied about respecting gun rights.

Justin Trudeau and Joe Biden are certainly a threat to your gun rights. But so are the gun owners who support and elect them.

And what about the mass murder on 9-11-01 when 2753 people lost their lives! Without a shot being fired! I

Member of our vice president's family quoted as saying that the "White Male" is the greatest terrorist threat to this country. She may get her wish. Of course she may be referring to her aunt's boss, Mr. Biden.

Lol. Do you think gun control goes two ways? Corrected? The only “mistake” Trudeau thinks has been made is not enough variants have been prohibited.
