Kurt Grates is doing a great job at GLSA. People should take a lesson from him on how to photograph guns. If you go to his website, there is a neat "magnifier thingie" that magnifies segments of each of the photos.

Both, according to the description--by The Potter Company. Is that Dennis, or any connection to him? If so, that'd be a good indication of quality work.

Is that SST a Miller? Could not tell from the photos.

The case colors looks right for a Savage era gun and their cyanide process isn't easily duplicated.

Restock maybe, but with the condition of the metal I might lean towards the wood being original. Of course with out the gun in hand it is all just guess work.

Restock as stated in description. Condition of metal not relevant to originality of wood. Gun likely restocked to customer specs in a fancier stick of walnut. In my opinion, and to each his own, the new stock has too much figure going on and detracts from everthing else that is excellent about a D Grade despite the checkering being beautifully executed correctly to the grade. It is a beautiful piece of wood, I just would love to have seen the stocks that left the factory as they would likely have been chosen wisely to balance out the aesthetics.

That is a Fox-Kautzky Single Selective Trigger. Millers never had a selector like that. Millers either selected by the safety (early style) or by a rocker switch in front of the trigger (later style).

Who ever restocked the gun was very good. The layout looks perfect. Too often you see layout that is great for show but very poor in the wrist area. The grain flow is perfect on both sides and the wrist should be very strong. If Mr. Fox could have had the same blank he would have had it done it the same way and been proud of it.

Speaking of layout. Here's an HE Grade Super Fox - restocked to original manufacturing card specs and dimensions. The original stock was modified by someone in the past. I wanted a good layout in the wrist, especially for an HE, and picked the blank with that in mind. Not for sale! Silvers

Perhaps it's an illusion, but in every pic the checkering on the forend appears to be 2-4 lines coarser than the grip.



I wouldn't be surprised to see the cheeks done in finer lpi, but they appear to be the same as the grip.

Looks like there's a chance the forend is original.

Well, It sure looks like Dennis' work! At any rate it is first class as I would expect from him and if it's not his work it is still top shelf!

As for the grade of wood vs grade of the gun - I have a Fox D in my shop with original wood that looks very close in quality. In fact the one I have is probably a little nicer. A H Fox used some pretty nice wood on their guns as a rule

Anyway, I'd like to own a D as nice as that one!
