Hi All, I'm refinishing two L.C. Smith stocks. I think I'll try my first go at "bedding the heads" as well. While I have found some limited info on "how to," can anyone allow me to gain from their experience? I guess my biggest question is a detailed description of what part of the innards to remove, that will be replaced with the Acraglas.
I'd welcome any other tips, too. Like, Crazy-Glue the wood first?
Thanks!

I would suggest your first attempt not be on the Smiths

Thanks for your caution; I'm not getting any younger, though, and I'm pretty handy with most everything I've ever tackled. I just want to go in with whatever tips I can aquire.

I have seen these links to the 'photo trail' and have studied them. My "problem" is that the two stocks in question do not have any cracks presently. So, without any cracks to dig out and undermine, where would it be advisable to remove wood, and replace with the Acraglas?

If your vintage L.C. has no cracks at the head of the stock or oil soaking, you might just paint the head of the stock and lockplate inlets with Goat Tuff Glue http://www.goattuffproducts.com/index.php?op=11
Apply until the wood will absorb no more, allow to cure several hours, then reassemble.

Thanks, Drew. There is some oil in both stocks; they're soaking now in acetone / terpentine. I'll check out the Goat Tuff.
