Freshly ground rubber recoil pads always have a little more grip than older ones. They drag a little on your hunting/shooting jacket during the mount. Got any suggested treatments to get that slightly glazed look and feel (the pad, not me)? I'm mostly concerned with pads such as Pachmayr Old English, Silvers, Winchester, etc, but KickEez advice would be helpful, too. Thanks.

There's a product called SlickEez I believe is right, made to do exactly what you ask. I often see it advertized adjacent to KickEez pads, not sure if they are made by the same company maybe. I don't really care for the finished look, but it works. It almost looks like the pad is varnish coated. It does wear down, so at some point you would probably be happy with it. I have it on one clays gun that has a KickEze pad on it. It's been there several years and still serves it's purpose.
How does one achieve that slick, smooth finish on a Silvers pad? Armor All? SlickEez? Just time?

If it is already fitted to the stock you can wax it with Rennisance wax or any other sutible wax like original Simoniz.
Using it will also help.

This is going to sound strange, but I can remember a discussion on this subject a few months back, and I think it was on this board, but the answer to getting that finish that has that soft Purdey look, is to sand the pad with 800 W/D sandpaper. I have tried it, and it does the trick. Don't tell anyone, this is supposed to be a closely guarded secret.

Be sure to tell Ruger Hawkeye 'Alaskan' owners. The whole stock needs this treatment. Man, that is a lot of sanding.
Well, I would just buy synthetic replacement from Brownells and throw that fungly rubberized POS away.

Strum & Ruger makes nice rifles, but that rubber stock is horrendous. Wish I could find ole' 77 with tang safety and wood stock in .35 Whelen.
