An actual key is placed into a slot specific for that key in the lock plate of a sidelock and then turned to either unlock (for removal) or to lock (when placing/securing) the locks, I.e., for removal and replacement. It's a novel idea which replaces a screw seen on most sidelocks. However, if one loses the key.......then you have a problem. I've often wondered if the keylock was a sort of gimmick to compete with the Holland and Holland hand detachable lock??
