I got the call early this morning from his oldest daughter. My good friend Staff Sergeant Michael A. Thompson passed in the VA hospital in Philadelphia late last night. A decorated veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, Michael had been shot twice and "blown-up" once, as he described it. He was the first person I'd ever met who owned an original Parker 28-gauge. He will be missed....

And...if I might be so bold, my wife's Great Uncle who passed earlier this Spring was also 101st Airborne:

Frank was with Easy Company in Shifty's squad, made famous in "The Band of Brothers" on HBO a few years ago. A remarkable man that I never got to meet, my loss. I found his obit to also be quite remarkable:

Godspeed to them both, they're in good company.
