you are better off leaving it as is and letting someone do a proper repair in the future than doing one that just looks good now. The gun would look great on anyone's wall as is. Guitars and guns are similar but not the same. If your buddy sands the wood below the metal like most people do then there is no going back. Same goes if he puts one of those real pretty high gloss guitars finishes on it.
