It would be paradise if we could live the way you mention, Craig. It's pervasive human nature for stronger to pick on the weaker, to value others by what they own, to undervalue what others contribute to those around them to the best of their ability.

As James said earlier, I feel no guilt for the sins of our forefathers in abusing indigenous peoples while extracting what they wanted from Canada. I am ashamed but understand callousness was common for the times. We are slowly making amends for the mess we made.

And that's the rub: acknowledging responsibility and the consequences of the mess we made by not providing the amenities of civilization, equal opportunities for work, health, education, strengthening cultures instead of eradicating them as official policy.
