If legislatures represent the will of the people, Canadian citizens, ostensibly for the Indians' own good, forced them to give up their spiritual life, their languages, sent their children off to schools run by "Christians" where they were mistreated and sexually abused.

On why we "would want to,' they weren't like us, Bob. They didn't believe in our gods. We had to stop their jibber-jabber, make them speak English or French, make them in our image, deferential to their masters, consumers.

But Canada is paying for it now: their far off expanses to keep them out of sight are filled with diamonds, oil, minerals, routes for badly needed pipelines, superports, and the federal government and the world's biggest corporations
are tied in knots trying to make it good to bring Canada's cornucopia to market.

I am the great grandson of a full-blood Mi'kmaq.
